I built an agri college on my planet..and noticed my efficiency was 110%..what does that do exactly?

might have canals Hazed updated Idiot's but I still don't get it---something about getting more in the same period of time---I don't know if they're free (that'd be nice) or something.

Based on my own observations, I believe that an increase in efficiency actually decreases the amount of time it takes the exchange to cycle for that commodity.
For example, after building canals, adding an agricultural college and getting a boost from my merchant fleet, my agri commods are all at 114%. After watching my exchange complete a few cycles, it became apparent that agri commods where cycling at different intervals that the other groups.
I'll continue to study this and post more info as it becomes available.

Interesting observation, Dun. I haven't looked at the issue that closely yet, but I had been working under the assumption that increases in efficiency were applied to the commodity's production points, as set out in the June 18, 2006 issue of the Star, quoting: "The efficiency level for a commodity is applied to the production points, increasing the production by the specified percentage." See: www.ibgames.net/fednews/060618/official03.htmlBut I recently increased the efficiency in one of my commodities to the point that, if that were true, I should be producing one more of that commodity per exchange cycle than I did previously. I found this was NOT the case. My planet still produced the same number per cycle that it did previously. My efficiency has not been raised to the point that it would be obvious that those commodities are ticking over at a rate faster than other commodities, though. I would be interested to hear more about your observations to the extent to learn more.

Okay, I decided to put my theory on efficiency to the test.
Once every 60 seconds for an hour, I did a "di exchange" and recorded the current stock amount for two commods. Commod "A" has an efficiency of 101%, while Commod "B" has 114%.
Here are the results:
Commod "A" cycled as follows in minutes:
4, 6, 5, 4, 6, 5, 4, 6, 5, 4, 6, 5 for a total of 12 cycles per hour.
Commod "B" cycled as follows in minutes:
5, 3, 4, 3, 5, 3, 4, 3, 5, 3, 4, 3, 5, 3, 4, 3 for a total of 16 cycles per hour.
This leads me to conclude that the extra 13% in efficiency gains you 4 cycles per hour.
I'd love to see someone else try this on thier planet and compare results...

this is a VERY interesting observation dun- nice work catching it.
i have never looked at commods outside the normal "exchange cycle" time. it appears that the time your exchange takes to cycle (every five minutes or so), and the time each individual commodity takes to cycle can be different! i had no idea this was the case- the question is, can anyone figure out how to exploit this difference for profit making? (ahhh capitalism!)
i am also doing some calculations on your numbers, and it appears that the actual number of bays per day you'll get at 113% eff. is actually 22% more stock than you'd get at 100%- pretty stellar.
i'll try your every minute strategy and report back later on what my exchange does.
commods cycling more quickly based on their increased efficiency does make sense according to the guide- quoth the guide: "If a commodity's efficiency is greater than 100%, it means that over time the exchange is going to produce more of that item - it simply speeds up the production line."

that would prob depend what levels you had---most of my agris that I could check that on make 70ish (fruit) or 95ish (woods) so the level would have to be rather high---unless you have a spreadsheet or some such for it?
