How can I have a surplus of livestock and a big deficit of meat? One would think..a surplus in livestock would result in a surplus in meat. Something about that doesn't jive..

I think you have a surplus of livestock and a deficit in meat cause yor planet doesn't have a slaughtering plant to process it. Obviously your livestock is used mainly as pets and not for food.

I had mentioned that to Ibgames at one point, think when was merchie, and they said something vague (go figure) along the lines of "planets work differently than factories do." Doesn't exactly make sense to me, but not going to question them.

While we are on the subject of things not making any sense..here is mine. A Meats factory producing meats needs an input of...guess what...meats??? I could never understand that one. Cragon

I know, Cragon...it is the same thing with Cereals. I have both cereals and meats factories on my planet, as they are the biggest deficits (other than biological). Instead of having one sell to the depot to be inputs for the other facs, I'm just hauling it in. With my spread set so high, maybe I'm saving a little money in the long run by getting the inputs at a cheaper exchange!

well, cereals, fruit, soya, things like that you need "seeds" to make more, they're not necc the end products but yes, meats is a bit harder since they should be processed livestock ::shrugs:: mystery meats / spam, maybe?
