lol, definitely odd and since it's friday and i'm drinkin a beer (and i'm a nerd and like to snoop) i ran a little trace to the fed server: 2 er1.chi1.speakeasy.net (64.81.224.1) 11.916 ms 10.925 ms 10.842 ms 3 220.ge-0-1-0.cr2.chi1.speakeasy.net (69.17.83.153) 10.745 ms 16.544 ms 16.172 ms 4 200.ge-0-1-0.cr2.nyc1.speakeasy.net (69.17.83.218) 32.480 ms 32.118 ms 32.736 ms 5 nyiix.ge-2-2-0.gbr1.nyc.nac.net (198.32.160.20) 32.838 ms 31.613 ms 32.566 ms 6 0.ge-3-0-0.gbr1.nwr.nac.net (209.123.11.174) 33.308 ms 33.308 ms 33.719 ms 7 0.so-7-3-0.gbr2.oct.nac.net (209.123.11.58) 34.500 ms 34.225 ms 34.188 ms 8 * * * you can see here that the name/route craps out when connecting through gbr*.*.nac.net - NAC is Net Access Corporation- one of the major backbone providers in the US... it looks like their routes through to england (I assume that GBR1 stands for "Great BRittain 1") are a little mucked up- either that or something on the other side of the pond is down ... so what does this mean for you? well nothing! i'm just a dork but if anyone has any NAC services (like broadband at home) they could log into the support site and check out the backbone status. ok, back to my beer!

Hi, all I guess you all know the server is down. From what I've learned from Freya, this goes back to the power outage a few months ago when several characters were corrupted. Evidentally, the server files are corrupt, as is the kernel (whatever all that means). Alan has been working with the server technicians all day, and they continue to work to restore the server. ETA is unknown. Sometime "after the weekend" is the best guess at this time. The web site and the IB emails are all down as well. I think it takes a while to rebuild a server. I'll try to check in from time to time, and when I have more news, I'll try to update you all. In the meantime, I guess we could open an MIRC chat or something if you like. I'm on irc.stratics.com in #Federation if anyone wants to join me. It's an unofficial chatroom.

Will they be working during the weekend to restore the game?

Hmm. I wasn't able to get into that site, Cats. It asks me for a username and password.... but I don't see a place to register. Do I need to be an extra super special person to get in? Sephorin

Here is an email from Hazed..
Hi folks,
As you have probably noticed by now, Fed2 is down and has been since yesterday. The server which hosts the game, as well as the ibgames website and our mail system was completed fried, and we're having to rebuild everything, which will take a few days.
I'll have more news tomorrow, which I will send out to the Fed2 Star mailing list.
Never fear - we will be back!
Hazed "

Please see the top "Fed 2 Down" topic. DJm and I set up a temporary MUSH for those who get the shakes really badly. We're not quite up to coding spaceships yet, but there is a room, a waitdroid with Diesel's Old Peculiar, and pizza. Trill
