Is there any adverse affect to someone overselling to your exchange while you are raising stockpiles?
Also, does spread matter much when raising stockpiles? I had been setting specific commods to a 6% spread while I walked them up and then resetting it to 40% when I hauled out. It seems like I had a good reason for doing this, but I can't remember what it is!
Thanks.

hey brooke you really don't want people selling to the exchange when you are producing- it will eat a little bit out of your profit (because you are buying something that you could make for less). that's why i "walk" my exchange- generally the price won't stay good enough for people to haul in while i'm producing. if you were to just set the stock max very high, the difference between current level and max level of stock makes selling much more profitable, thus attracting traders. as for building at 6 and hauling at 40- that will ensure that the price you pay to the exchange stays as high as you can set it, so you are putting the maximum you can into the planet, and minimizing your personal profit (because you will get taxed if you transfer from personal to planet)

Hey Smitty! Thanks for the answer. I am walking my exchange up, too. I think it is possible that I'm doing it too much at once...but I'm almost out of F-keys the way it is! I am trying to get to 3000, so I've divided each producer into the increments it takes to get there hourly. Some are done in two hours, some are done in four. I'm sure my low spread on the stockpiles is the attraction, but I'll be honest...I'm not crazy about someone coming to sell a commod to an exchange that is already showing a big surplus. I'd love to get to a point where I could keep big stockpiles full time at a respectable spread...enough that I won't lose money. I just need to get my builds done. Someday!

well, here is the thing you have to remember: even if you have 4000 tons of something in stock, if you set the max to 5000, traders will still get a decent price for selling (you are in "mixed" mode- buying and selling the commod). Most people that are just glancing at the display from the price checker won't even register that you have stock- they'll just be looking for a good sell price.
one thing i have NOT experimented with is also walking up the MIN for commods i'm producing. i believe that would make the buy price unattractive, but the sell price would not change. so it wouldn't help to prevent traders filling something you're producing.
all that being said- i have VERY rarely noticed traders selling me commods while i'm walking up- and i generally walk up my biggest producers by 1000-1200 tons per step. i usually don't pay tooooo much attention though.
