Hello!
I promoted one of my planets from Agri to Resource today. I understand (at least I hope I do) that the high disaffection rating is normal for the first day. However, my productivity for each commod group has dropped considerably. Almost my entire exchange is currently operating at 85% efficiency. Is this normal?
I only did 30 builds before I promoted and immediately built the 3 housing projects after promotion. I'll post my infra builds, but I'm mostly just wondering if the efficiency will go back to normal after today. If not, I'm in trouble because I blew all my big bucks on the three builds I did today!! Thanks a bunch!

Hi,
Yes, it's normal and will recover with tomorrow's reset.
Understand the concern though!

Thank you, Arctic!
My newest planet is doing well since it reset to "normal" functions. My other planets I have to fight tooth and nail to make a profit (an average of 2 megs a day), but my new roll is apparently very receptive to Smitty's "buy, don't sell" philosophy. I have yet to haul in anything yet, but I started out with negative one meg yesterday (first day of normal function) and my planet has made 8 megs since then. Why, oh why can't my other planets do that, too???

hey brooke, glad to hear things are going well!
i have tweaked my strategy a few times since my initial "buy, don't sell" theory, and i wanted to relay that hauling out is *extremely* profitable when done correctly. i do build up stock and haul out quite a bit nowadays, but it is quite a bit more work (more work = more money) because i still believe in "walking" the exchange.
perhaps i'll have to post some more about my hauling strategies at some point.

Smitty...yes, you should post more about it. I know a lot of us like to hear what others are doing. I have also been using a bit of the hauling out on one of my planets (I have three now, so I can experiment a bit more...but hate the responsibility of three).
When hauling out, I always set the commod to 900 tons less than its current state to help with the price while I load the ship (I don't use macros). Sometimes the exchange cycles while I'm loading up, taking the 'surplus' that I was trying to get. What happens to the excess that is consumed by the planet? I thought I'd read somewhere that someone walks their exchange down that way...rather than hauling out, they walk down the excess. Is that a worthy thing to do?

well, i can't say much about "walking down" because i've never tried that. I will say, without giving a straight how-to, that it is possible to make *some* money using the above mentioned method of disposing stock. however- be aware that you will make MUCH more hauling out the traditional way. also, many people are against this "shortcut" method, because they consider it a bug in the game. personally, i don't care how you make your money, but i can see how some people would consider it abusing the system. (i don't see how it is any better or worse than fkeying all your hauls, or using macros) however, it was reported to bella as a bug when planets first came into the game, and is still not fixed- so that would imply at least that it is not outright *against* the rules but this is another facet to consider: if you haul out the traditional way, you'll be left with HUGE amounts of cash in your personal balance, which you can then xfer into your planet if you so choose. so you could add that cash to the huge money you've already made

I had no idea that was a bug in the game! Interesting... It has been more of an annoyance to me than anything else, but I have to say I'm glad I am not *losing* money when that happens. Actually, I probably do lose a little bit of money, as I tend to keep buying until my ship is full (and that means at an inflated price after my surplus has been sucked out of the exchange...) I'll be glad when it is fixed, if ever.

Monkey, have you checked to make sure you've done all your builds necessary for resource? I've found that the low efficiency goes away after a day under normal circumstances. I just looked briefly at your infra builds and I did not see the 3 housing builds that you should have immediately after you promote to resource. There might be more that I'm missing.
If you go back through the infra builds section in the Idiot's Guide, you can make a list of the builds you need to do and check them off as you complete them. I'm about ready to go through to make sure I've done all the ones necessary for the rank I'm at right now. I have to check several times during each rank because I always read them so quickly that I miss ones that I'm supposed to do! ;D

Ah yes. I must have missed that build. dagnammit.
I should have just copied the builds from my logs but I decided to go through them all from the website from scratch. Interestingly I have those builds written down in the list I made but I never actually built them.
Oh well, at least I know now. Thanks! Monkey

Don't feel bad! I've gone through the website and made list after list after list and when I went back through a couple of days ago to double check that I was done, I found I needed to build another school and do a police build. How I continue to miss these things after all the time I've spent on it is an explanation I'm much too proud to hear!!
