Which reminds me... When a planet promotes from Agri to Resource, do the stock levels reset to 0 at reset with the new exchange roll?
If that's the case, I'm thinking it would be good to haul out / lower the max on commods you have stockpiled to inject the value of those commods into the planet's treasury, unless the value of your goods is added to the treasury automatically, which I would doubt.

stock levels do start at zero when you promote- so the defs you have will be full, and you'll make money as those burn off- but if you don't cap your producers, they will all begin to fill, so you will lose money on that side of things. as for stock you currently have going back to treasury automatically- i believe that is the case, but don't quote me on it. my philosophy when i promoted was to log in directly after reset, and set every commod to min 126, max 200. that way nothing would fill, and i could decide what commods i was going to offer (some people let everything that produces fill up for sale- i only sell some commods) that philosophy will also immediately inject a few meg into your planet as all those "free" defs are eaten by the population

Great Smitty, that's the info I was looking for! To be safe, I think I'll haul out the surplus that I have the night before promotion, as far away as that is. I kinda employ the opposite strategy for minor producers - I let them fill to 800 and let them sit has I've only noticed minor dips from events / players, but either way, good deal!

glad i could help! as for minor producers, i was having a discussion of my philosophy on them with brooke (i think) and basically it boils down to this: I don't produce them, because if someone comes in and buys 7 or more bays, and it takes (literally) a few days for that commod to re-fill, there is a good chance someone will come SELL the same commod back to me, thereby causing me to lose money but it's really up to you- the chances of that situation actually occurring are very small. I'm really HAPPY people are all running their planets differently! it would be massively boring if everyone was doing the same old thing. that's why i experiment with my planet so much- trying off the wall things just to see what happens

I've gotten a little bit of flack for not selling anything on my planet and I consider you one of the big voices in planet mgmt, so now I don't feel as bad!!

well thanks for the compliment! If all it takes to be a big voice is to post my opinion and the occasional tips, i'll keep being a big voice (as long as you guys keep reading)! I've also gotten a lot of tips and tricks from the board, and several other players, so i can't take all the credit for every idea special shouts to nomad and djentsch for especially insightful info I think they key is: just don't be afraid to try new things. what's the worst that can happen? you lose 10 meg? so what! you can always make it back! in all honesty, i find people that criticize the way i run my planet to be one of two things: 1) annoying whiners - their way is the only way/you SHOULD be doing it this or that way/etc. I personally don't pay any attention what so ever to these people. i do things MY way. I'm not telling YOU how to run your exchange the fact that i run my exchange differently than you is not a personal insult. sorry if you take it that way. 2) clueless- hey, that's ok. at least these people aren't locked in to some arbitrary idea of how a planet SHOULD be run. they can still learn! and the number one lesson for me: you can run your planet how EVER you WANT! the thing about #2 is, ALL new POs start off being clueless. taking the time to learn and play is what makes fed FUN! if you just follow somebody's playbook on how to do X, you never learn anything. you might as well just have a computer program play fed for you. it's your planet, run it however you want!!!
